I had gotten up to use the restroom at about 2am Christmas day. About 30 minutes later I felt like I had to go again but that just seemed crazy! There was nothing I could do to stop it though and I yelled at Andy to get me a towel. He was knocked out and had no idea what I was talking about. At that moment my water decided to break...when people say it is just a little trickle or whatever else...umm yeah...gush after gush after gush. I think I changed clothes 5 times before we left for the hospital because it just kept coming! We got to the hospital at around 4am Christmas morning, thankfully it was early and not busy since it was Christmas and we were able to get to a room right away. The worst part of the whole experience was probably getting the IV. They had to try 3 different times and it was awful. When the doctor came in to check at about 5am I was going nowhere. Wasn't feeling any contractions and had made no progress whatsoever. With my water having broken on it's own (I always wanted that to happen so I actually knew I was in labor but later learned that maybe if there is a next time I would prefer that not to happen since it acts as a cushion and makes things less painful...) there was a little bit of a time crunch because after a certain amount of time...I think it was 18 hours, the risk of infection begins to rise. One thing that was awesome was the doctor I really wanted ended up being the one on call that day! The one I really didn't want was on call that night into the next day, my actual due date, so I was super excited to have Dr. Tosky! When he showed up he gave us 3 options, just waiting it out but potentially ending up with a c-section, starting pitocin, or starting some other drug. He said that honestly all 3 options had the same risk of a c-section and I later found out that he really thought we were going to end up that way! We decided to go with the pitocin and they started that at 9am. Dr. Tosky told us he expected us to deliver late Christmas day or more than likely on my actual due date. That was a little discouraging just because I couldn't imagine having to wait that long when we were so close! After awhile the contractions really started to pick up, so much so that after a lot of contemplating and with the encouragement of our awesome nurse Catalina, I decided to get an epidural (so much for natural!). The anesthesiologist came in about 1:30 and I felt like a brand new person! It was way less painful than that IV! Life was much better after that although I was worried it was going to stall things since they say once you start one thing it can tend to snowball, stall, and end up with a c-section). When Dr. Tosky came back in around 3pm I was really nervous to hear what he had to say. At that point however I think I was about 3! They weren't checking very often because of risk of infection. About 5;00 he came back again and we were at 9 and he said he changed his mind and we should have this baby by 9! We were so excited! Then about 5:30 the nurse decided to check and then decided not to because she could feel the top of his head! She called in Dr. Tosky and he changed his time to 7! Well, after about 30-40 minutes @ 6:12pm Luke Andrew LaGrange was born! I ended up with quite a few stitches (again, so happy we went with the epidural) but it was totally worth it! My first reaction was that he was so cute but sadly had his daddy's toes...haha. I was also really impressed with Andy. He was such a great helper and managed to watch the whole thing. I NEVER saw that coming. And he got to cut the cord which was awesome. Anyway, without further ado here he is!

Ok, I'm a sucker for birth stories, so I'm so glad you wrote this :) And, totally with you on the gushing deal. I totally walked around the apartment with a towel wrapped like a diaper until we went to the hospital! My belly looked deflated. ha. And, so glad you were able to have a normal birth! Know that I'm praying for you and I hope you're having a blast with little Luke!
